Acne 101 - Simple Treatments for Acne Prevention

Acne, pimples, zits, blemishes – little things that can ruin your day

You are not alone, about 85% of young people experience some level of acne severity.  It is also common for men and women to experience acne throughout their lives.  Acne may not cause major health concerns, but a breakout definitely interrupts our daily routine.

Inflamed Pores

Knowing how acne forms will help you develop a treatment plan specific to your needs.  Pores are small openings at the skin’ surface containing a hair follicle and sebaceous gland.  The sebaceous gland produces sebum (oil) that flows to the skin’s surface.  Sebum is a necessary component to skin protection but can become excessive.  Overproduction of sebum along with dead skin cells migrating to the surface can clog the pore, producing a comedo. Comedoes that remain under the surface are whiteheads and comedoes that raise to the surface are blackheads (not black because of dirt, but because the sebum has reacted to the air).  If the comedo continues to clog the pore, bacteria to builds up, the comedo becomes inflamed, and a pustule or pimple forms.  Keeping pores clear of comedoes can be a key factor in acne prevention.  Other factors in acne prevention are:

  • Cleansing pores from bacteria
  • Normalizing sebum production
  • Restoring skin’s pH levels

Nikua Skin’s easy three-step skincare routine uses natural ingredients to address acne prevention and treatment.

Lemon Cream Facial Cleanser cleanses the skin without harsh soap.  Tangerine Scrub exfoliates the skin to remove comedoes while Tangerine oil acts as a natural antiseptic to reduce bacteria.  Energizing Toner restores pH levels, shrinks pores, deeply cleanses, and removes surface dirt, sweat, and toxins.  Facial Serum and Healing Lotion rehydrates and restores skin’s natural oils that are stripped away during the cleansing and toning process.

There is no secret to maintaining skin health.  Acne is the most common skin ailment and can be prevented and reduced by utilizing a daily skincare routine of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.
